Last year we had plans to partner with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, who in common with ourselves marked their 50th Anniversary. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, this collaboration had to be put on ice. However we are now delighted to defrost the plans on Midsummer’s Day and mark together the 51 years of great music-making by our two vibrant establishments and to underpin our new name, the Dublin International Chamber Music Festival. We are pleased to be able to present this special concert, at the invitation of the Office of Public Works, from Castletown House, birthplace of the Festival in 1970. We welcome back to the Festival the sensational Scottish guitarist, Sean Shibe, who is making his début with the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Sean will give the premier performance of new concerto by David Fennessy, Rosewoods, which was commissioned by both organisations to celebrate our respective landmark anniversaries. A kaleidoscope of music by Malcolm Arnold, Errollyn Wallen and Edvard Grieg will also feature in this midsummer night’s stream.

Rosewoods by David Fennessey is a joint commission by the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the Dublin International Chamber Music Festival, which is supported by the Festival’s Commissioning Circle of the O’Shea Farren, Meek Conlon, Moore Murphy, O’Driscoll McDonagh and Shinton O’Driscoll families.

Presented in association with the Office of Public Works
