JS Bach arranged by Dermot Dunne:  Goldberg Variations, BWV 988

DICMF is delighted to return to the enchanting Casino Marino, a masterpiece in Palladian architecture on the north side of Dublin, for a performance of JS Bach’s towering work, Goldberg Variations with a difference. Accordionist Dermot Dunne joins forces with Altan’s Martin Tourish for two performances of Dermot’s own brilliant arrangement of Bach’s masterpiece in this truly intimate setting designed by the distinguished British architect William Chambers.

Ahead of these performances on June 6th, we are pleased to present a free admission event in another building designed by Chambers, the Chapel at Trinity College Dublin. On June 4th at 11am, Irish architectural historian and author, Dr Edward McParland, will give a short talk on Chambers’ work in Ireland, followed by a selection of variations from Bach’s towering work by Dermot and Martin.

The Casino was designed by Sir William Chambers in the late eighteenth-century as a pleasure house for James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont. It is widely acknowledged as the most important example of neoclassical architecture in Ireland. The Casino is operated and managed by the Office of Public Works and is only 15 minutes from Dublin’s city centre.

Please Note: Access to the building and its interior is via stairs which may cause problems for those with mobility issues.
