‘Where is Home?’ (‘Hae Ke Kae’)

South African cellist Abel Selaocoe is a rapidly rising star who is redefining the parameters of the cello. He moves seamlessly across a plethora of genres and styles and combines virtuosic performance with improvisation, singing and body percussion.

Selaocoe is devoted to composing works and curating programmes that highlight the links between Western and non-Western musical traditions, broadening the horizons of classical music to reach a more diverse audience. In 2023 he received the RPS Instrumentalist Award for his performances and collaborations which “blaze with creation, sending audiences home on a high”.

DICMF is exceptionally proud to welcome this trailblazing artist for his Festival début with Bantu Ensemble at Dublin Castle’s Printworks, where they will perform music from his first recording ‘Where is Home’ (‘Hae Ke Kae’) which explores the African traditions and Western Baroque music that have shaped him.

Presented in partnership with the Office of Public Works and in association with Dublin Castle

Supported by Dublin City Council
